Book excerpt: The general objective of this project was to monitor and evaluate the performance of prestressed (posttensioned) concrete pavement during the construction phase. The construction of this pavement was just south of Brookhaven, Miss. on U.S. Highway 84. Most of the 58 prestressed slabs were 450 feet in length and all were 24 feet wide and 6 inches thick. Located between the prestressed slabs were reinforced concrete gap slabs 8 feet in length and 7 inches thick. An expansion joint was set at each end of the slabs. This report describes the construction of the 2 1/2 miles of four lane prestressed pavement.
