Each of these messengers provides unique and valuable insights about the physical properties and processes of the cosmic sources. Together, they reveal a detailed picture of the Universe and provide answers to many open questions. Gamma rays are the highest energy form of electromagnetic radiation. Observations of astrophysical very-high-energy (VHE, > 100 GeV) gamma rays serve as probes of physical conditions and processes in the most extreme environments throughout the Universe and can be used to test fundamental physics. In this dissertation, we used both archival and real-time follow-up VHE gamma-ray observations from the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS), as well as other multi-wavelength observations, to search for gamma-ray sources that are counterparts to high-energy neutrinos detected by the IceCube observatory. We studied broadband multi-wavelength properties of two active galactic nuclei: TXS 0506+056 and M87. We conclude by discussing future projects for multi-messenger astronomy and the progress related to the next-generation Cherenkov Telescope Array. In particular, we discuss our contribution to the development and commissioning of a prototype atmospheric Cherenkov telescope at the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory in southern Arizona.
