The problem was that the closest fire department resource was not always dispatched to emergency calls because of jurisdictional boundaries. Due to budgetary issues, the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) has lost resources in the past few years. Additionally, financial pressures on the state level forced reductions in State Shared Revenue funds to all local municipalities. These realities were forcing municipalities to look at new ways of doing business. The purpose of this applied research paper (ARP) was to identify opportunities for the Milwaukee Fire Department to implement automatic aid agreements with Milwaukee County fire departments.
