Book excerpt: In light of recent extreme weather events in news headlines, a connection to climate change continues to gain greater attention. This project examines how climate change is likely the causation of large scale anomalies in the 500 mb flow that then translate to more extreme variations in snowfall on a local scale. The overall goal of this research is to aid in better prediction of short and possibly long term, seasonal snowfall in the Steamboat Springs, Colorado area via better understanding of mid-level jet stream patterns that significantly impact winter precipitation.
