Child care centers provide an opportunity for childhood obesity prevention. High sugar sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption has been linked to childhood obesity. A SSB tool kit was created by Challenge Chippewa, a community nutrition and physical activity action team, and sent to child care centers in Chippewa County with the aim of establishing health promoting activities and policies to decrease SSB consumption. This research investigated influences on SSB tool kit use, whether the serving of sugar-sweetened beverages at the child care centers changed after implementation of the tool kit, and if the tool kit had an impact on the child care center SSB policy. A survey was emailed to the 61 sites that received the tool kit. The small number of survey responses (N=10) did not provide enough data to produce significant results. However, the results revealed that the tool kit has the potential to effect SSB service and policy at child care settings. Future research on the use of a tool kit aimed at influencing policy change that includes a needs assessment and investigates delivery methods will be beneficial in improving policy change interventions.
