The definitions of writing and art vocabulary are cross referenced throughout the book, using bold type. The second part of the book is a set of ten writing/illustrating lessons to give practice and inspiration for writing and illustrating children's books. They serve as basic training for capturing the kernel of a story and guiding the artist's hand in composing pictures to round out the story. The last piece of the book is a 'Making Children's Books' unit plan for teachers of any age of learners who wish to give a lasting gift to their students, a published book.
