Book excerpt: The high-probability (high-p) instructional sequence has been used in a variety of ways in the treatment of non-compliance. Researchers have also evaluated the high-p sequence in the treatment of food selectivity, which might be considered a form of non-compliance. Within this literature, the exact type of high-p task used has not been systematically evaluated. Some studies have evaluated high- p tasks that are topographically dissimilar to the low-p task, such as giving a high five for the high-p task when the low-p task is consuming bites of food, whereas others have evaluated high-p tasks which are topographically similar to the low-p task of food consumption, such as taking bites from an empty spoon. The results show that both of the variations were effective in increasing John's consumption of low-p foods. The high-p sequence employed was systematically faded with consumption staying at high levels and IMB at low levels. Limitations and implications for future research are provided.
