J oseph commanded his physicians to embalm his body, showing that Egypt had at that time men who practiced the heal ing art, and that they must have had at least a rude knowledge of general anatomy. Within the last few years Assyriologists have traced assyrio-ba'bylonian medicine four or five thousand years before Christ, and shown that twenty-two hundred years before the Christian era medical laws were codified, probably being the m0st anéient medical practice act.
