Ceive the general di 'nlion of moral knowledge which might take place in a fociety. The in ruttor might, by a diligent application of his talents, acquire a much greater portion of moral knowledge than the other members of the fociety. He might, by a careful education, transfnfe the greater por tion of this knowledge into his pupil, while the faculties of the latter were (till capable of much further improvement, and while he had ltill before him a long period of health and firength. The pupil thus educated would be placed in a condition to advance much further in the acquifition of moral knowledge than his in ruetor; he would already be as far advanced on his w'a'y, and would lldl be hell: and vigorous, while his in ruetor was about to link exhaufied to the dull. But if the further acquifitions in moral knowledge, made by the pupil thus in r'ufted, were in turn commu nicated to another pupil more near the commencement of his career, the' latter would be placed in a condition to advance l'till further than his immediate' intt'ruetor; and much further than the inllructor (if his in.
