NHTSA must establish CAFE standards pursuant to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, Public Law 94-163, as amended by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, Public Law 110-140. This request is being issued in preparation for an upcoming Joint Notice of Proposed Rulemaking being undertaken by NHTSA and EPA regarding future CAFE and greenhouse gas (GHG) standards currently anticipated to be released by September 30, 2011.
