Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this project was to determine a method or process to improve the overall fire protection plans review services provided designers and equipment installers. It had already been determined that a one on one educational process with architects, engineers, equipment installers would significantly increase turnaround time on plans and subsequent release of permits. However, this was taking too much time and was repetitious. To be more efficient and hopefully accomplish the objective, it was decided to find out if architects, engineers, developers and equipment installers would be interested in attending seminars on the life safety/fire protection sections of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. After receiving positive comments and suggestions from the design/development community, the decision was made to conduct six, four hour seminars over a period of several months.
